COWABUNGA NEW ARRIVALS (VHS) – June 4th, 2024

It’s Tuesday! You know what that means, tapeheads? Well, today at least, it means New Arrivals! Check the video bellow to see a sample of today’s new arrivals:

We put out a huge collection of more than 50 VHS tapes, including perennial classics like the original Star Wars trilogy, as well as some lesser known films. And starting today, for the first time, we’re selling vintage VHS tapes on our website too.

All tapes are sold As Is, and they have not been playtested. We do a quick visual inspection for any obvious damage, and remove anything we notice from circulation before it makes it to the website.

Here are some highlights from today’s new arrivals:

But really, that’s just the tip of the iceburg. Keep in mind we do Flat Rate shipping in the US. We’ll be putting up more vintage tapes every few days, so be sure to check back often to Browse our full selection of Vintage VHS tapes:

But, tapeheads, that’s not all! We also carry a bunch of NEW VHS tapes:

Happy Birthday Dashiell Hammett

Dashiell Hammett, author of such classics as The Maltese Falcon, The Thin Man, and The Glass Key and countless short stories, was born this day 130 years ago. Let’s remember and celebrate his legacy.

Of course, the real legacy of Hammet is on the screen, where his novels inspired some of the most important works of 20th century cinema. One often overlooked piece from that era is the Television Adaptation of The Glass Key, which is currently streaming on New Ellijay Television.

The Glass Key, of course, would go on to inspire Yojimbo, which would in turn inspire A Fistful of Dollars (which then went on to inspire the David Carradine vehicle The Warrior and the Sorceress, among many others.) The seeds of these other films are present in the novel, and some of the more recognizable of these themes are present in this television adaptation.

So, happy birthday Mr. Hammett, and thank you for bringing us the stuff dreams are made of and inspiring a whole slew of mystery and adventure stories. Without you, we wouldn’t have ever gotten these:

New Hours!

We’ve expanded our hours! Coffee service starts at 8AM every day, and continues until 4pm (or later, if we’re busy.) The book store opens at 9, but we can sell books as soon as we open the doors.

Come see us and convince us to stay open even longer.

Cafe Open Now!

After three months, our bookstore and cafe are now fully operational. We stock a wide variety of coffees, most from Georgia Mountain Coffee, and we have a large seating area in addition to our books, records, movies, antiques, and decor.

I took a couple of snapshots to celebrate:

Of course, if you’re not in the North GA mountains, you can shop most of our inventory online as well:

We’re Open!

Our retail space is open now, with a huge selection of thousands of books, movies, and records. Our hours are going to be a little inconsistent until our renovations are complete, but you can catch us between 10 and 6 most days, and coffee service will return in a few weeks when our renovations are complete.

If you can’t make it out to see us in person, we also have a huge selection available online! Check out our webstore. We’re adding new items to the web store every day, and new product hits the floor for our retail space at least once a week.

This is just the beginning, but we think it’s a good preview of what’s to come, and we hope you’ll join us for the ride.

Welcome to Hemlock Bazaar

Hemlock Bazaar is a new kind of Appalachian Marketplace. We sell coffee, books, records, art, kitsch, decor, and all manner of other locally made goods here online and from our storefront in downtown Ellijay, GA. Stop by our cafe for some fresh brewed espresso, roasted in town by Mountain Town Coffee, or catch a concert in our Jazz Garden. We have live music most weekends, while the weather permits.

We are located at 131 N Main St, in the building formerly occupied by the Ellijay Coffeehouse. If you stop in, you’ll see a lot of familiar faces from the Coffeehouse, and we’re serving many of the same delicious items but, after 10 years as the best coffee shop in town, we’ve decided to add even more ways to serve our community.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates about Book Club meetings, Movie Nights, and more.

We’re looking forward to inviting you all in to our new home, opening soon!
