Death Race 2050 – (Blu-ray)

A sequel to 1975’s Death Race 2000, released in 2017, it’s a film about a brutal car race. Corman was in his 80s when filming commenced, but the film is visibly of a kind with the films he produced in his prime, both stylistically (that is to say it’s grimy, sleazy, and cheesy) and thematically (that is to say, it’s full of explicit political commentary, critiquing the state of the world in the way Corman always did.)

Some have pointed out that the president in the film looks like Donald Trump. When asked, Corman said:

The president does have a hair style which could be approaching Trump’s hair style, but I don’t want to get too heavy into that, because Trump will come and go and the film will remain.”
